Font Runner 3.1

Hello All,

I'm sure you've seen the announcement on the home page -- Font Runner 3.1 has been released and it contains all the features from Font Runner Pro. That, of course, means Font Runner Pro has been discontinued.

Why have we done this? There are a few reasons. Let me explain.

Since releasing Font Runner 2, we've received all kinds of wonderful feedback. Many users have even commented that they would be willing to pay for it, particularly if it had certain features. Font Runner was something of a back-burner project at Crux at the time. It was something we created for our own purposes and decided share with the world. All the great vibes from the Font Runner community compelled us to do more with it, so we began work on version 3.

As much as Font Runner is fun to work on, it incurs some actual development costs. To offset this, we decided to split Font Runner 3 into two editions. Font Runner 3 would contain an enhanced Font Runner 2 feature-set and remain freeware. Font Runner Pro 3 would be shareware and contain features (we hoped) were worth paying for.

When Font Runner 3 and Font Runner Pro 3 were released in July, 2008, a funny thing happened. All the feedback stopped. I expected these forums to fill up as my inbox has over the years, but at the time of this writing, there have been 2 posts here in the past 8 months and those are bug reports.

Font Runner just wasn't as much fun to work on after that. I'm the primary developer of Font Runner. When I split it into two projects and added yucky license key code, it felt unholy. That part wasn't fun. Being a software developer, sharing my pet project with the world for free and hearing from lots of people that they actually benefit from it; that's awesome! The sparse sales since July simply have not been worth it.

Go download it. I hope you enjoy using it as much as I did creating it.
